Staff
Our Early Years Unit comprises of two classes.
Mrs Bell teaches Class 1, and Miss Morgan teaches Class 2.
We have fantastic support from our Teaching Assistants; Mrs Hartley , Miss McGee and Miss Atkinson.
Curriculum Overview
Homework
Homework is given on a Wednesday and should be returned the following Monday. Homework tasks should be completed in your purple homework book.
Each week, your child will be given a phonics. A Maths task will be added later in the academic year.
Homework must be completed so that children are not at a disadvantage.

Reading and Phonics
Reading books are sent home Monday-Thursday with the expectation that your child reads every night. Adults should sign your child's reading record. Reading books and books bags need to be brought into school EVERY day.
There are two types of reading book that your child will bring home:
Reading practice book This book has been carefully matched to your child’s current reading level. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence in reading.
Listen to them read the book. Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their success! If they can’t read a word, read it to them. After they have finished, talk about the book together.
Sharing book In order to encourage your child to become a lifelong reader, it is important that they learn to read for pleasure. The sharing book is a book they have chosen for you to enjoy together.
Please remember that you shouldn’t expect your child to read this alone. Read it to or with them. Discuss the pictures, enjoy the story, predict what might happen next, use different voices for the characters, explore the facts in a non-fiction book. The main thing is that you have fun!

Outdoor Learning
Our outdoor learning space is an environment that allows children to explore the world around them; using and developing skills that they can not, indoors. Our outdoor area has lots of different resources and opportunities available to our children.
Bikes
Children in Reception love to use the bikes in the outdoor area. By using the bikes, children are developing their core stability, co-ordination and strength in their arms and legs. It also helps children will full body awareness along with their environmental awareness of what is around them.
Water Play
Water play is an open ended activity providing opportunities for extended learning and early experiences in science, maths and language development through play. Water play leads children to ask questions; developing curiosity and leading to experimentation.
Mud Kitchen/ Texture kitchen
Mud Kitchens can provide a variety of different learning opportunities including; sensory, imaginative, creative and exploratory play. Being outdoors gives children the chance to connect and learn about nature, to be creative and invent their own role play games, and can even allow for early maths and science learning.
