St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School

Together we are growing in God's love

SACRED SPACES

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
                                     Psalm 46:10

Our sacred spaces help children to encounter God in calm, prayerful and meaningful ways. Our Prayer Room is situated at the centre of our school, reminding us that Christ is at the heart of our community. In classrooms and shared areas, prayer tables, Scripture, candles, symbols, sacred images and liturgical colours help children prepare for prayer, reflect quietly and recognise that God is present with us.

Our Prayer Room

Our Prayer Room is a peaceful and special space at the heart of our school. Children use this room for prayer, reflection, quiet moments, Lectio Divina, Visio Divina and special times in the Church’s year. The space changes throughout the liturgical year, helping children to reflect on seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and the Month of Mary.

Godly Play Areas

Our Godly Play areas help children to explore Scripture through storytelling, wondering and play. These spaces allow children to listen to Bible stories, respond creatively and spend time thinking about what God might be saying to them. This is especially powerful for younger children, as it helps them encounter Scripture in a calm, hands-on and meaningful way.

Our Prayer Garden

Our Prayer Garden gives children the opportunity to pray and reflect outdoors. It is a quiet space where pupils can be still, notice the beauty of God’s creation and take time to speak to God. This area helps children understand that prayer can happen both inside and outside, and that creation itself can help us feel close to God.

Classroom Prayer Spaces

Each classroom has its own prayer space, helping children to remember that prayer is part of everyday school life. These spaces include Scripture, crosses, candles, Rosary beads, sacred images, children’s prayers and colours linked to the liturgical year. They provide a clear focal point for prayer and help children prepare their hearts and minds to listen to God.

The School Hall

Our school hall is an important sacred space where our whole school family gathers for prayer, liturgy, worship and celebration. The saint banners remind children of those who inspire us to follow Jesus through love, courage, service and faith.

The hall also displays our school-created canvases showing the story of Salvation History. These beautiful pieces of artwork help children see the bigger story of God’s love and His plan to save humanity. When we gather in the hall, these signs and symbols help us remember that we are united as one Catholic school family, growing together in God’s love.

Our Living and Learning Displays

Our Living and Learning displays remind children of our mission, values and the way we are called to live as followers of Jesus. They help pupils see that our faith is not separate from school life, but shapes the way we learn, play, pray and treat one another.

Nature School

Nature School is another important sacred space at St Patrick’s. It gives children time to wonder at the beauty of God’s creation, reflect outdoors and learn how to care for our common home. Through quiet reflection, prayer, exploration and care for the natural world, children grow in gratitude for the gifts God has given us.

Faith around the School

Faith is visible throughout St Patrick’s, including in shared spaces, corridors and the Headteachers’ Office. These areas remind children, staff and visitors that we are a Catholic school family and that Christ is at the centre of all we do. Our displays, prayers, symbols and children’s work help celebrate our mission of growing in God’s love.
