Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.
Welcome to Year One
In year One, we are taught by Mrs Bell. We are supported by Mrs Tunstall and Miss Youdale.
We are an amazing cohort, who strive to work hard and we love to learn new things.
Below, you will find information about what we are learning, the importance of reading at home, and other general information.
Our Curriculum 2024-2025
Homework
- Homework is given out on a Wednesday and should be returned the following Monday; it should be completed in your homework book.
- Homework should be completed by the child and should be presented neatly.
- Homework will consist of a weekly spelling task on spelling frame, a reading or a phonics task and a maths task. This will be on active learn every other week. All children have passwords in the front of their homework books to access these.
- Homework must be completed so that children in Year One are not at a disadvantage.
Reading and Phonics
Reading every night at home is vital for the learning in Year One. Children who read 4 times a week at home, achieve fab 4 and will receive a treat. Reading books and books bags need to be brought into school EVERY day.
Please see our link to our Early Reading and Phonics page, which explains the importance of reading, what reading and phonics looks like in our school, and how children progress to be the best they can be.
