Physical Education
Year 5&6 County Champions!
Multi Skills
Intent and Aim
Local Multiskills events intend to give St Patrick's Catholic School children enjoyable, inclusive opportunities to develop fundamental movement skills, confidence, teamwork, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.
Aim
- To develop key skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance, and agility.
- To build confidence, resilience, and enjoyment through fun, age-appropriate challenges.
- To promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.
Pupil Selection Rationale
Children are selected fairly based on a combination of skill development, effort, positive attitude, and behaviour. Selection also considers providing opportunities for personal development and ensuring balanced teams. Over time, opportunities are rotated so that many pupils can represent the school, supporting inclusion and fairness.
Year 3 & 4 Swimming
In Years 3 and 4 our children attend intensive swimming sessions at Copeland Pool in the Autumn term.
Following these sessions our children work towards a range of skills, at varying levels and they aim towards the following targets:
*Children are able to swim competently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m,
*Children are able to use a range of strokes efficiently, and
*Children are able to perform at safe rescue in different water-based situations.
In our recent years children in different cohorts, following their sessions in the Autumn term, 42% of children fully meet the targets above.
