St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School

Together we are growing in God's love

“We must teach our children to smell the earth, to taste the rain, to touch the wind, to see things grow, to hear the sunrise and nightfall, to care." - John Cleal

Nature School at St Patrick's

Spending time in nature promotes a healthy attitude towards sustainability and our natural environment. For children, time outdoors is great for developing physical motor skills, self-confidence and an emotional awareness in the natural world. The activities in the natural environment can also be applied to the national curriculum, whether it’s understanding the properties of shapes, doing science practicals at the fire pit, or learning the meaning of words through woodland stories. The outdoors is in fact the perfect place to see how concepts learnt in the classroom can be applied to the outdoors.

Our Nature School provides direct access to all of this right on our doorstep. Thanks to support from Sellafield Ltd, Arborscape and the TDA, we have created a one of a kind facility in the heart of Cleator Moor.

At St Patrick's we use our Nature School to:

  • Promote self-esteem, creativity, confidence and independence.
  • Enhance the existing curriculum and promote creative learning opportunities
  • Enable supported risk-taking, child-centred learning, exploration and play.
  • Promote team-building and collaboration skills.

We are proud to invite the community to use the site. Community groups, other education providers and businesses are welcome to contact school and book a self-led session in the Nature School.
